I had to

A Hat In Time is a cute-as-heck 3D platformer collectathon game.

This game is developed by Gears For Breakfast released on 6 October, 2017. This game also has some DLC (Downloadable Content) as updates.

STORY

without spoiling too much of the games + DLCs

You play as a little alien girl, unnamed but mostly referred to as Hat Kid. She is on her way home from an unknown location when her spaceship fuel, the Time Pieces is lost and scattered across a nearby planet, thanks to a Mafia Goon.

Due to this, she is required to explore the planet to round up all her lost Time Pieces. Certain people are aware of the Time Pieces' abilities, and will not give it up without a fight.

Gameplay

Pretty much like your typical 3D platformer, walking. jumping, wall-hopping, also swinging with Hat Kid's hookshot. You can also hit enemies with the umbrella given in the very first act in the first chapter, Welcome to Mafia Town. Yarns are spread all across the acts, and you will need them to sew powerful hats that will help you throughout the game.

Personal History

I found out about this game, or rather Hat Kid, at least in those Dancin' Hat Kid meme in 2019, but I remembered first time seeing Hat Kid specifically from this video. (yes I am a CG5 fan especially during that time.) But the game didn't interest me that time, I'm not sure why, I just didn't even bother to check videos on the game.

Then, I saw the game being mentioned in someone's introduction from a private server I used to be in around 2021. I checked it out, ended up finding a 15 minute video worth of The Snatcher's voicelines. I lasted for like. 1 minute and 50 seconds before i decided to click out of the video, uninterested again.

Finally, in 2023 I stumbled across this minecraft animated music video and I said to myself, "Hey, isn't this that song from that dancing smug kid meme? Her name was Hat Kid, right?". It finally clicked to me. I finally checked out the game around end of February 2023. I watched the gameplay and I was flabbergasted because the game is drastically different than I thought it would be.

I got the game including the DLCs (except Vanessa's Curse) around March 2023

pretty sure the total hours spent on the screenshot above speaks for itself about how hooked I am to the game.
